Hope for senior citizens – Nurse Assisted Palliative Day Care Centre for the Elderly opened
Anwar Memorial Pain and Palliative Care Society marks another milestone in its pursuit of patient care.
Mr. A Veeran Pillay, Octogenarian and Managing Trustee, Aminumma Hydrose Dr. Nafeesa Beevi Charitable Trust, planted a sapling at the premises to mark the opening of Anwar Memorial Nurse Assisted Palliative Day Care Centre for the Elderly at West Kadungalloor, Aluva in Ernakulam District, Kerala State.
Registered as a Charitable Society in 2002, this Centre caters to the palliative care needs of patients with end-stage diseases and health care providers through its major Divisions as follows:
- Outpatient Division
- Inpatient Division
- Home Care Division
- Training Centre for Excellence in Pain and Palliative Care
- Rehabilitation Division
The latest edition is a three-storeyed building, the ground floor of which is ready for accommodating 20 senior citizens. The Centre is run on a no-profit-no-loss basis. Transportation from house to Centre and back (on demand), general medical facility, Common Dining Hall, Food during period of stay, Library and Reading Facilities, Indoor games like carom, chess, playing cards etc., Television facility, Separate Rest Rooms for males and females are some of the facilities made available to them. The first and second floors, which are awaiting completion, are proposed to be used for longer duration of stay and residential training centre respectively.
A solemn function was also arranged at the premises. Smt. Indira Kunnakkala, Ward Member, Shri V K Shanavas, Leader of the Opposition, Kadungallur Grama Panchayath, Shri Suresh Muttathil, Ex-Block Panchayath Member, Dr. C M Hyderali, President, Shri E A Shabeer, Vice President of the Society, Shri K Radhakrishna Menon, Member, South Zone, Central Council, Indian Association of Palliative Care, Shri V K Shamsudeen, President, Mangalodayam Residents’ Association and other local leaders graced the function with their august presence.
Earlier, a special postal stamp to commemorate the 15th year of its existence was formally released at a conference with the media persons.
